Srinagar: In a move aimed at tightening the noose around militant networks and their support structures, Srinagar Police Tuesday attached property belonging to a designated militant operating from across the border.

Officials said orchard land measuring 3 kanals and 18 marlas, valued at around ₹1 crore, was attached at Bandi Payeen in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. “The property belongs to Asif Maqbool Dar, son of Mohd. Maqbool Dar, who has been declared a militant by the Ministry of Home Affairs.”

The action, the officials said, is linked to FIR No. 107/2020 registered at Police Station Parimpora under various sections of the IPC, including sedition and promoting enmity, along with provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. “Proceedings were carried out under Section 25 of the UAPA in the presence of the concerned Executive Magistrate.”

“Although the land is officially held in the name of his father, currently residing at Bemina, investigators have established that Asif Dar is an active stakeholder. Police said he has long been involved in spreading anti-national propaganda, inciting disaffection, and facilitating militancy through social media platforms while operating from across the border,” the officials said.

According to officials, the attachment is part of a wider strategy to disrupt the financial and logistical ecosystem that sustains militancy and allied activities in the Valley. The police stressed that individuals engaged in such activities will face not only legal action but also forfeiture of assets.

Srinagar Police has in the meantime reiterated its commitment to safeguarding peace and security in the region and warned that no one involved in anti-national activities will be spared.
