Srinagar: The Anantnag district administration has imposed a ban on trekking, camping, hiking, and related outdoor activities in the Margan Top, Chauhar Nag, and Sinthan Top areas, citing security and public safety concerns.
An order issued by the Sub Divisional Magistrate Kokernag states that inputs from the police and other security agencies have flagged vulnerabilities in certain high altitude and forested zones falling under Sub Division Kokernag. The assessment points to risks arising from unrestricted movement in these sensitive areas.
The order refers to recent incidents in which some individuals attempted to cross police check posts during late night hours. Authorities said such incidents have heightened safety concerns and underlined the need for preventive measures.
According to the administration, allowing trekking and camping activities in these locations could adversely impact overall security and public safety. The restrictions have been imposed as a precautionary step.
The ban will remain in force for a period of two months, unless withdrawn or extended earlier.
The Station House Officer Larnoo has been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the order and to regulate movement at all check posts in the affected areas. The general public has been advised to adhere to the restrictions, with officials warning that violations will attract action under the law.
