Srinagar, Aug 27: The Sericulture Development Department, J&K, has successfully concluded a three-day Skill Development Training Programme at Theed, Srinagar, aimed at educating silkworm rearers and farmers on modern sericulture practices and government schemes.
Director Sericulture J&K, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, said the training was designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and hands-on exposure to advanced rearing techniques that enhance productivity, improve silk quality, and ensure sustainable cocoon production.
He underlined the government’s focus on capacity building and outreach to farmers, stressing that such programmes empower communities to boost income while contributing to the growth of the silk industry in the Union Territory.
During the closing session, tool kits and certificates were distributed to participants to encourage adoption of the techniques learned. Officials said the department is committed to bridging the gap between farmers and technology while ensuring that the benefits of centrally sponsored and UT-level schemes reach the grassroots.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from local farmers and silkworm rearers, who expressed gratitude for the training. Many said the skills acquired will help them strengthen their livelihood prospects.
The department announced that similar training and awareness camps will be held across other districts to further support the sericulture sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
