Handwara: Security forces on Friday busted a major terrorist hideout in the Neeriyan forest belt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nowgam sector of Handwara in Kupwara district.
The operation, the officials said, was launched jointly by Handwara Police and the Naugam Brigade of the Indian Army following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of a weapons cache in the dense forested area. “After an extensive search, the joint team uncovered a well-concealed hideout stocked with a substantial quantity of arms and ammunition.”
According to officials, the recovery includes, two M-series assault rifles (M4) along with four magazines, two Chinese pistols with three magazines, two hand grenades, and several live rounds.
“In connection with the latest recovery, FIR No. 39/2025 has been registered at Police Station Qalamabad, and further investigation has been set in motion to identify the networks involved,” said the officials.
Officials said the fresh recovery indicates persistent attempts by terrorist groups to push weapon consignments into the region from across the LoC. They added that heightened surveillance and intelligence-based operations have been instrumental in intercepting such efforts.
