SRINAGAR: Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) have ordered immediate clearance of unauthorised roadside vendors and illegal parking across the tourist destination.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SDA in a communique to In-charge Tourist Officer has said it has been observed that several street vendors have set up unauthorized shops and temporary tents along the roadside and at other locations in Sonamarg.

“These encroachments are causing inconvenience to tourists. Pedestrian movement has been restricted and visitor flow has been disrupted. These activities are also affecting the natural environment of the destination,” SDA said.

It also said that the presence of such stalls reduces the visual appeal of the area and creates a negative impression about the management of this tourist location.

SDA urged the concerned authorities to take immediate action for removal of these unauthorized tents and shops. “Strict regulation is required to restore smooth movement of tourists and to protect the environmental quality of Sonamarg. The SDA team will support your staff during the enforcement drives. Coordinate with our employees on site to ensure timely clearance.”

“You are further requested to maintain regular monitoring. No vendor should be allowed to erect illegal tents/stalls along the roadside or in open spaces of Sonamarg in future. Continuous regulation will help safeguard the environment and maintain the standards expected at a tourist destination,” it reads—(KNO)
