SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) and Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) have announced a series of planned electricity shutdowns across Srinagar and various districts of the Jammu division to facilitate essential grid maintenance, cable shifting, and infrastructure upgrades. These power outages, spanning from July 5 to July 10, are expected to affect domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers in several regions.
In Srinagar, a major shutdown has been scheduled on July 7 to carry out the completion and test charging of power evacuation from the 150 MVA GIS Grid Station at Tengpora through underground cable circuits extending to Allochibagh Bund. As a result, the 33KV GIS Tengpora lines — including the Narkara, Danderkha, KP Bagh, and Exhibition lines — will be shut down. Consequently, the 33/11KV Receiving Station at Danderkha will remain non-functional during this period. Areas such as Danderkha, SD Colony, Tengpora, and Gulberg Colony will face power outages from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM on July 7.
Similarly, in north Kashmir’s Sopore area, power supply will be suspended on July 10 from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This is to facilitate the shifting of ACSR conductors onto newly erected 11-metre poles that feed the Sidiq Colony Receiving Station. The shutdown of the 33KV Amargarh Sopore line will disrupt electricity in Model Town, Noorbagh Hospital, Kapra, and adjoining localities.
In the Jammu division, JPDCL has scheduled multiple area-specific power shutdowns beginning July 5. On that day, residents of Dachhan, Ikhala, and nearby areas will face electricity cuts from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, while areas fed from the Gladni Grid Station will undergo rotational outages on both July 5 and 6 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Trikuta Nagar and its adjoining areas will experience power disruption on July 6 from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM. On the same day, electricity will remain suspended in Vijaypur Town, Kolpur, Bandral, and surrounding regions between 6:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Industrial zones including Bari Brahmana and EPIP Kartholi will also face power interruptions on July 6 from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM.
Further outages have been planned for July 7, when power supply to Jakh, Sarore, Bari Brahmana town and its industrial belt will be curtailed from 5:30 AM to 9:30 AM. In the Kathua district, the Superintending Engineer of JPDCL O&M Circle has informed that Kelhi and neighbouring areas will undergo power cuts on July 5, 7 and 8 from 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Additionally, Vijaypur 2nd and adjacent localities will be without power on July 6 and 9 from 7:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.
