SRINAGAR: The Supreme Court will on Monday hear a petition filed by the wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, challenging his detention under the National Security Act (NSA) as unlawful and a violation of his fundamental rights.

Wangchuk was detained on September 26, two days after protests in Ladakh demanding Statehood and Sixth Schedule status turned violent, leaving four people dead and injuring 90. Authorities alleged that the activist had played a role in provoking the unrest, a claim his family has disputed.

On October 29, the Court sought responses from the Union government and the Ladakh administration on the amended petition submitted by Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J Angmo According to Monday’s cause list, the matter is listed before a bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and NV Anjaria.
