Kulgam, Jun 22: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today inaugurated the Shaheed Wali Mohammad Itoo Memorial Cricket Tournament at DH Pora in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
The event, organised to honour the memory of the late leader, witnessed an enthusiastic turnout from local youth, cricket enthusiasts, and community leaders. The opening ceremony set a spirited tone for the tournament, which is aimed at promoting sportsmanship and youth engagement in the region.
Addressing the gathering, Sakeena Itoo paid heartfelt homage to Shaheed Wali Mohammad Itoo, describing him as a symbol of dedication to public service and community welfare. “This tournament is more than just a sporting event; it is a tribute to the values that Shaheed Wali Mohammad Itoo stood for — selfless service, social justice, and youth empowerment,” she said.
The Minister emphasised the importance of creating spaces and opportunities for young people to grow and shine. “Through events like this, we aim to not only honour our heroes but also empower our youth by giving them meaningful platforms to express their talent,” she added. She reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering youth development through sports, education, and community initiatives.
