SRINAGAR: Member of Parliament Ruhullah Mehdi has called on the government to resolve longstanding reservation and merit-based admission issues at Vaishno Devi University, warning that he will resume protests with students after December 20 if the matter remains unaddressed. Mehdi stated that unlike previous demonstrations, this protest will not be limited to a single day.
The issue, which has persisted for over a year, involves delays in addressing student vacancies and merit-based admissions. Authorities had initially promised resolution within six months, but the deadline has long passed. In the weeks leading up to the Budgam Assembly elections, officials indicated the matter would be resolved in a few days; however, more than a month has elapsed without progress.
Mehdi criticised the government for ignoring the plight of youth, describing the delays as suffocating an entire generation. He urged officials to act rationally, emphasising that the matter concerns students’ careers rather than political or personal egos.
