Rugby 7’s championship concludes in Srinagar, 16 teams participate

Srinagar, Sep 6: The District Srinagar Rugby 7’s Championship concluded at Polo Ground’s Synthetic Rugby Field with 16 teams vying for glory, as Srinagar Pink and Srinagar Lions clinched gold in the women’s and men’s senior categories.

As per a statement issued on Saturday, the championship was organised by the Srinagar Rugby Association in collaboration with the J&K Rugby Association and proudly sponsored by the J&K Sports Council.

In the Senior Women’s category, Srinagar Pink emerged as the champion, securing the gold medal, Srinagar Oranges claimed the silver, and Srinagar Panthers bagged the bronze.

In the Senior Men’s category, the Srinagar Lions stormed to victory with the gold medal, the Srinagar Blues took home the silver, and the Srinagar Greens finished strong with the bronze.

The closing ceremony was graced by Irfan Aziz, who attended as the chief guest and distributed medals and trophies among the winners. In his address, Aziz highlighted the importance of rugby as a dynamic contact sport, emphasising how it instills values of discipline, teamwork, endurance, and resilience among youth.

The successful completion of the championship reflects the growing popularity of rugby in Srinagar and the commitment of organisers, players, and stakeholders to nurture this exciting sport at the grassroots level.
