SRINAGAR: Member of Parliament for Srinagar constituency, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, has recommended works amounting to Rs 5.37 crore under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) over the past year, officials said.
The funds have been sanctioned for infrastructure upgrades and improvement of public amenities across multiple localities within the constituency. According to officials, the focus has been on projects related to civic facilities, community assets and basic services that have witnessed longstanding delays.
The spending ensured that developmental benefits reach underserved neighbourhoods and that “equitable growth” remained a priority.
In the last one year, the MPLADS funds recommended by MP Ruhullah have supported a wide range of public infrastructure works, including road improvements, construction of community infrastructure, augmentation of water supply systems, development of sports facilities, and installation of street lighting in underserved localities.
Ruhullah, who has recently stepped up his criticism of governance lapses in the region, has emphasised that MPLADS should be utilised transparently and directed at urgent ground-level needs rather than “showcase projects”.
