Jammu, Feb 21: Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti on Saturday underscored the growing importance of cyber investigation amid the rapid rise in technology-driven crimes.
Addressing officers at a training programme in Jammu, the IGP said cyber-enabled offences are increasing at a fast pace and require investigating officers to remain technically updated and legally well-versed. He stressed that proper handling of digital evidence, adherence to legal safeguards and maintaining the chain of custody are crucial for ensuring successful prosecution in cybercrime cases.
He highlighted the need for specialised knowledge in conducting digital seizures and preparing seizure memos in accordance with established procedures so that electronic evidence can withstand judicial scrutiny. The IGP also emphasised understanding the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, particularly those dealing with admissibility and evidentiary value of electronic records.
The three-day training programme on Cyber Investigation and Mobile Forensics commenced at the Conference Hall of District Police Lines Jammu and was inaugurated by the IGP Jammu Zone in the presence of senior officers and trainees drawn from across the Jammu Zone. [KNT]
