SRINAGAR: Authorities intensified restrictions across the Kashmir Valley on Friday amid fears of fresh protests following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Normal life in the Valley has remained disrupted for the sixth consecutive day since demonstrations erupted over Khamenei’s killing in reported joint US–Israel strikes.

The administration had imposed restrictions on Monday after spontaneous protests broke out across Kashmir a day earlier. Educational institutions have been closed until Saturday, while mobile internet speeds have been reduced.

Large numbers of police and paramilitary personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force were deployed across Srinagar early in the morning to prevent demonstrations.

Concertina wires and barricades were placed at key junctions leading into the city as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, Ghanta Ghar at Lal Chowk remained sealed off after authorities barricaded the area late on Sunday night following massive protests triggered by the Iranian leader’s assassination.

Internet bandwidth continues to remain restricted to 2G speeds, and services on prepaid mobile connections remain suspended, even though the Jammu and Kashmir Home Department had ordered restrictions on data and mobile services only until the eveningof March 4.
