Residents of Ganderbal’s Kullan protest against drinking water shortage

Kangan, Jun 30: The residents of Kullan area of Tehsil Gund of Ganderbal district on Monday staged a protest against the shortage of drinking water in their area for last several days. The protesters blocked the Srinagar-Leh highway and raised the slogans against the Jal Shakti Department.

The protesters including women assembled at the road and blocked it for almost one hour while chanting anti-department slogans.

The protesting residents said that they were facing tremendous hardships due to the non-availability of water from past several days. “We are being deprived of drinking water from last several days now in this scorching summer,” said a local resident. The residents have once again appealed concerned department to provide them potable drinking water without further delay. Later a Police party reached the spot and pacified the protesters following which they dispersed peacefully.
