SRINAGAR: Member of Parliament Aga Ruhullah on Saturday said he would stand by agitating students over the reservation issue, warning that he would join their protest if the government failed to engage with them and provide clarity on the pending decision.

Speaking to Kashmir Life on the sidelines of an Awami Darbar at Khansahib in Budgam, Ruhullah said he would not allow students to feel isolated and would raise their concerns at every available forum. He stressed that the administration must take students into confidence by clearly explaining the status of the decision-making process.

“If the government fails to talk to the students and explain where the reservation file stands, I will not hesitate to join their protest,” he said, adding that his demand to the authorities was simple and straightforward—open communication with those affected.

Ruhullah said the authorities should inform students about what decisions have been taken and the current status of the file. “If certain matters fall under the oath of secrecy, those need not be disclosed, but at least the students should be taken into confidence,” he said.

Expressing concern over repeated notifications and delays, he said these had led to growing disappointment among students. “If the government cannot even talk to them, I will not let these students stand alone. If they want someone to speak for them, I am ready and will extend full support,” he added.

The MP said the authorities still had time to show empathy. “If they have even a little sympathy for the students, they should call them, talk to them and explain where the process stands and what steps, if any, have been taken,” he said.

He also reiterated that the students would decide the venue of the protest. “Wherever the students sit, I will sit there,” Ruhullah said.
