Repeal 4 new labour codes, raise minimum wages: Tarigami

Srinagar, Jul 9: Senior CPI (M) leader and State President, J&K CITU, today made a strong plea for repealing of four new labour codes and raising of minimium wages.

He made the plea at a press conference here. Tarigami said that as part of nationwide strike, J&K CITU was scheduled to hold a one day peaceful protest on working class issues at Sher-i-Kashmir Park, Srinagar today under proper permission from the district Administration Srinagar. He alleged that the permission was later on cancelled for reasons not known.

The State President, J&K CITU opposed the move of the administration to cancel the permission for peaceful protest. He demanded repealing of four new labour codes, which according to him , are anti-labour and pro-corporate in nature. Tarigami demanded an end to contractualisation and privatisation of public sector units, creation of more government jobs and regular recruitment, and raising national minimum wages to Rs 26,000 per month. He alsp appealed for strengthening of rural employment schemes like MGNREGA and introducing the similar programmes in urban areas and loan waiver for farmers etc.

He stated that the working force comprising daily wagers, casual labourers, scheme workers including Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, CPWs, HDF workers, NHM employees; Construction workers; MDM; cooks; handicraft and artisan workers; Apple Farmers, transport workers; horticulture workers, electricity workers, MGNREGA workers; former employees of J&K Cements Ltd. are not allowed to highlight their burning issues,. Tarigami described it as a gross violation of the hard earned trade union rights. “The present dispensation in Delhi is suppressing the democratic rights and aspirations of the working people,”he said.
