SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said the government plans to initiate the regularisation of daily wage workers during the current year, assuring continued support to them.

“God willing, we will initiate the regularisation of daily wagers this year, and we will continue to support them,” the Chief Minister said, responding to issues raised in the House.

He also took a swipe at the opposition, saying it was frustrated over the pro-people nature of the Budget presented for Jammu and Kashmir. “The opposition is unable to digest the people-centric Budget we have presented,” he remarked.

Referring to past welfare measures, the Chief Minister recalled that SRO-based employment support for families affected by militancy was introduced in 1996 under the then Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, which, he said, benefited thousands of families across the Union Territory.

He said the government remains committed to welfare-oriented policies and supporting vulnerable sections of society through sustained policy interventions.
