Jammu/Srinagar: Weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir showed signs of improvement on Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) withdrawing its “red alert” to a “yellow warning” for parts of the Jammu region.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, citing the IMD report, said only isolated heavy rainfall is expected today and tomorrow in districts like Jammu, Udhampur, and Doda, with 7–11 cm of rain likely at one or two locations in a 24-hour span. The weather is forecast to improve significantly across the Union Territory from August 29.

The relief comes as several areas in Jammu remain affected by flood-related disruptions, hampering normal life and slowing down restoration efforts.

Meanwhile, in view of the flood-like situation and the administration’s focus on emergency response, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly secretariat has suspended all scheduled meetings of the House Committees, including Financial Committees, till September 5.

A notification issued by the Assembly secretariat stated; “In view of prevailing inclement weather conditions in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, and the consequent flood-like situation reported in various areas, besides as the administration is fully engaged in dealing with the emergent situation arising out of the adverse weather conditions, it has been decided that all scheduled meetings of the House Committees… stand postponed/cancelled till the 5th of September, 2025.” (with inputs from agencies)
