Anantnag: The District Police Anantnag have arrested two alleged fraudsters accused of running a sophisticated racket involving cheating and criminal intimidation across Jammu and Kashmir.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Tasaduq Hussain Dar alias Haji Tasaduq, son of Abdul Gani Dar, a resident of Sadoora, Anantnag, and Mohd Iqbal Wani alias Iqbal Bumdori, son of Mohd Sikander Wani, a resident of Bumdoora, Kokernag.

According to the police, the duo posed as businessmen and ran fraudulent operations under the guise of real estate, fruit trade, and wild garlic (Jangli Lahsun) ventures. They allegedly lured victims with false promises of high returns and, when confronted for repayments, resorted to threats and intimidation.

The case came to light following a complaint by a victim from Kishtwar who alleged that he had been cheated of ₹55 lakh in a bogus wild garlic trade deal. Acting on the complaint, Police Station Anantnag registered FIR No. 126/2025 under Sections 318(4), 351(2), and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Officials stated, as per Alfaaz – The Words, that the case is being investigated as part of a larger financial crime network, with efforts ongoing to identify other victims and possible associates of the accused.

District Police Anantnag has appealed to members of the public who may have fallen victim to similar frauds by the accused to come forward and report the matter to Police Station Anantnag.
