Handwara, Jul 7: The fourth edition of the Ramhall Cricket League (RCL) got off to a spirited start on Monday at the scenic Shaheen Sports Field in Pandithpora, Handwara, with City Royals Kupwara taking on Sheikh-ul-Alam Kupwara in the opening match.
As per a statement issued, this marks the making of a major stride for grassroots cricket in North Kashmir, this season introducing newly developed turf wickets.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Irfan Pandithpuri, Chairman of the District Development Council (DDC) Kupwara, who attended as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, Pandipuri lauded the efforts of the RCL Management in promoting grassroots cricket and providing a professional platform for young and talented players from the region. “Such leagues are instrumental in channelling the energy of our youth and fostering sportsmanship and unity,” he said.
The RCL, now in its fourth edition, has grown to become one of the most prestigious and competitive cricket leagues in North Kashmir, with participation from top clubs, emerging talents, and a strong network of local supporters. With over 50 matches scheduled across nearly two months, the league will witness a mix of local sporting rivalries and high-stake fixtures.
As per the press statement, this edition of RCL is being played on newly developed turf wickets, a first for Kupwara district. The management revealed that both turf wickets in the region were developed under RCL’s initiative—a major leap in uplifting cricket infrastructure in the area.
