Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) senior leader and nominated candidate for Rajya Sabha polls Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan on Friday said the forthcoming elections to the upper house of the parliament represent more than a routine political contest, describing them as a test of democracy, dignity, and the collective conscience of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a media statement, Ramzan termed the elections a “battle for dignity, democracy, and the rightful voice of the people, long been denied to the region.”

“The Rajya Sabha election is not just about numbers or seats, but a referendum on the BJP’s policies that have systematically disempowered our people, dismantled our statehood, and eroded our constitutional identity,” he said. “Under the guise of development, they delivered deception, and in the name of democracy, they enforced central control.”

He said that since 2019, Jammu and Kashmir has been reduced to an “administrative experiment, ruled by bureaucracy, deprived of representation, and stripped of dignity.”

Ramzan added that while the Assembly elections reflected a “resounding rejection of divisive politics and false promises,” the Rajya Sabha polls now provide an opportunity to translate that sentiment into parliamentary representation.

“This election is about reclaiming what was taken from us, our statehood, our dignity, our rights, and our rightful place in India’s democratic framework,” he said. “It is about telling New Delhi that Jammu and Kashmir’s legacy will not be one of silence but of resilience.”

Urging all democratic and secular forces to stand united, Ramzan said the struggle transcends political boundaries. “This is not a fight for power but for principle,” he remarked. “Democracy is not domination but a dialogue. And this election will define Jammu and Kashmir’s place within the soul of the Indian Republic.”
