Sopore, Mar 19: Despite persistent rainfall over the past few days, markets in Sopore are witnessing a surge in activity, with shoppers thronging bazaars for Eid-ul-Fitr preparations.

From the main town centre to roadside stalls, a steady stream of buyers has been visible throughout the day, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours. Residents, carrying umbrellas and wearing raincoats, continued to shop for garments, footwear, bakery items and other essentials ahead of the festival.

Shopkeepers said the festive momentum has remained intact despite the weather. “Even with continuous rain, people are coming in good numbers. Sales have picked up, especially in bakery items, eatables, garments and footwear,” said a trader.

Eid, traditionally a peak business period, has brought relief to traders, many of whom reported improved sales in recent days.

However, the rainfall has also caused inconvenience, with waterlogging reported in several areas of the town. Shoppers were seen navigating puddles and slippery roads, while traffic movement remained slow in congested stretches.

Street vendors and small-scale sellers, though affected by the weather, continued operations by setting up temporary covers to protect their goods.

Authorities have advised residents to exercise caution amid the inclement weather and avoid movement through heavily waterlogged areas.

Despite the challenges, markets in Sopore continue to reflect strong festive enthusiasm, with residents turning out in large numbers as Eid approaches.
