Srinagar, Jul 23: In the ongoing U-14 Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA)’s inter-school tournament, R P School on Wednesday stormed to a six-wicket win over Leeds International Academy school on Wednesday, overcoming not only their opponents but also the looming threat of rain. A brilliant all-round performance from Furqan, who scored an unbeaten 81 runs and took two wickets, was the highlight of the match.

Batting first after being penalised five overs for late arrival, Leeds International Academy school posted 136 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. The innings was anchored by Hashim (34), while Musadiq (18) provided brief resistance.

However, tight bowling from R P School’s attack, led by Furqan and Imaan with two wickets each, kept the scoring in check. Leeds reached 61/3 at the halfway mark and ended at 136/7.

When R P School came out to chase, the weather threatened to spoil the contest. Under tournament rules, they needed to score at least 36 runs in the first six overs to stay ahead in case rain intervened. The opening pair of Furqan and Majid rose to the challenge in style, smashing over 50 runs for the first wicket in just five overs, ensuring their side stayed well ahead of the requirement. Majid’s quick-fire cameo of 21 set the tone, while Furqan continued the assault with controlled aggression.

Furqan remained unbeaten on 81 runs, guiding his team to 137/4 in just 16 overs, sealing a convincing victory with 9 overs to spare.

The award was presented by Shayaan Mir, principal of R P School, who praised the team’s determination and Furqan’s heroics.

Shayaan Mir, Principal of R P School, expressed his delight at the team’s performance and the opportunity created by JKCA.

“I wish such tournaments were organised regularly so more students could benefit. With this win, my confidence in our team is very high, and we will do well in future matches.”

Notably, this is the first of its kind cricket sports event held by JKCA to tap on cricketing talent at an early stage in J&K. The tournament kicked off simultaneously this week in Jammu and Srinagar.
