SRINAGAR: In a major offensive against the drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir, police in Srinagar and Budgam have attached properties worth Rs 1.75 crore belonging to two notorious drug peddlers under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

In Srinagar, police on Sunday attached a two-storeyed residential house along with 1 kanal and 4 marlas of land in Khanyar, valued at approximately Rs 1.5 crore. The property, registered in the name of Gulzar Ahmad Bhat of Budoo Bagh Khanyar, is in the possession of his son, Suhail Ahmad Bhat, who is a known drug trafficker. He is implicated in FIR No. 55/2022 under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Khanyar.

Investigations revealed that the property was acquired through the proceeds of drug trafficking. Acting under Sections 68-E and 68-F of the NDPS Act, police seized the immovable property following due legal procedure. Authorities clarified that the property can no longer be sold, transferred, or dealt with without permission from the competent authority.

Meanwhile, in a separate action in Budgam, police attached property worth Rs 25 lakh linked to Parvez Ahmad Dar alias Pare Punjabi, son of Mohammad Anwar Dar of Nasrullapora. The property consists of a single-line shopping complex with five shops located in Nasrullapora. The attachment followed FIR No. 271/2022 registered under Sections 8/15 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Budgam.

Police said the seizures are part of a broader strategy to dismantle the financial networks that sustain narcotics trafficking across the Valley. “These operations aim to dismantle the assets of drug peddlers and send a clear message of zero tolerance towards drug-related crime,” officials stated.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have urged the public to assist law enforcement by reporting drug-related activities, stressing that community cooperation is essential to creating a drug-free society.

“Together, let us stand united against drugs and work towards building a secure future for our society,” read the joint police statement.
