Poonch Premier League season 6 begins

Poonch, Mar 24: The sixth edition of the Poonch Premier League (PPL) commenced with great enthusiasm at the Sports Stadium Poonch under the banner of the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.” The tournament has been dedicated to the brave martyrs of the nation.

As per an official statement, MLA Haveli Aijaz Ahmed Jan inaugurated the event as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, the MLA assured the youth of his support for the development of sports infrastructure in Poonch and reaffirmed his commitment to uplift local sports facilities in the future. He appreciated the efforts of the PPL Management Committee for successfully organising the tournament and encouraged the youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle with the message, “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Sports.”

The youth of Poonch also expressed gratitude to the MLA for his continued support and appreciated the efforts of the Sports Department for their ongoing work in promoting sports activities in the district. Mohammad Qasim (DYSSO Poonch) attended the event as the Guest of Honour.

The league is being organized by the Youth of Poonch in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services & Sports, Sports Council Unit Poonch and PPL Management. The event is being conducted with the support of the Indian Army (7 JAT Unit), District Police Poonch, Civil Administration, Medical Department, and officials of the Youth Services & Sports Department.

The tournament aims to promote participation in sports and education, guiding youth towards a healthy and positive lifestyle. Participants also took a pledge under the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.”

In the opening match, Poonch Spartans set a target of 144 runs in 20 overs after winning the toss. Nanki Panthers successfully chased the total, scoring 144/6 and securing a 4-wicket victory.

Kafeel Mahans was declared Man of the Match for his outstanding all-round performance, scoring 34 runs off 19 balls and taking 4 wickets.
