SRINAGAR: The District Office of the Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC), Srinagar, has seized 3.50 metric tonnes of prohibited polythene in a targeted enforcement operation aimed at curbing plastic pollution.

The raid, conducted in coordination with local authorities, took place in the Tengpora area following a surprise inspection by the enforcement team. Officials discovered a large quantity of polythene banned under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, and confiscated it for safe disposal in accordance with environmental regulations.

District Officer, JKPCC Srinagar, emphasised that the use, storage, and distribution of such prohibited polythene materials carry severe environmental hazards and are a clear violation of existing ban orders. He urged traders, shopkeepers, and the public to switch to eco-friendly alternatives and support the collective effort to reduce plastic waste.

Authorities have indicated that similar inspections will continue across the district to ensure strict compliance with the ban and to promote sustainable practices.
