Police Solve Rs 1 Lakh Livestock Theft Case in South Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Police in South Kashmir’s Shopian have solved a livestock theft case within hours of the incident and arrested two persons involved in the crime. The stolen cow, valued at around Rs 1 lakh, was also recovered.

Police said a written complaint was received at Police Station Shopian from Muhammad Sultan Teli, a resident of Batpora, who reported that a cow was stolen from the yard of his residence during the intervening night of June 30.

Following the complaint, a case under FIR No. 146/2025 was registered, and a special investigation team was constituted. Acting swiftly, the team recovered the stolen livestock and arrested two accused.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Altaf Mushtaq Ganaie alias Alsur, resident of Meemander, and Showkat Ahmad Malik, resident of Arhama, Shopian.

Police said further investigation is ongoing. The department reiterated its commitment to protecting public life and property and urged citizens to cooperate in maintaining peace and order.
