Police Seize Vehicle Carrying Illegal Timber in Handwara, One Arrested

SRINAGAR: Police in Handwara, in collaboration with Forest officials, on Thursday seized a vehicle loaded with seven illegally obtained Deodar logs in the Qalamabad area.

Officials said the Tata Mobile vehicle, which bore no registration plate, was intercepted at Yahama in Qalamabad. The accused involved in the timber smuggling attempt was arrested on the spot, and both the vehicle and the logs were seized.

A case has been registered at Police Station Qalamabad, and investigation has been initiated.

In a statement, Jammu and Kashmir Police said it remains committed to taking strict action against timber smuggling and other illegal activities to protect the environment and safeguard natural resources.
