Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Handwara intercepted a vehicle at Vilgam, and seized around 750 kilograms of rice consignment being transported illegally, officials said on Saturday evening.
They told Alfaaz – The Words, that the vehicle was stopped during routine naka checking after it appeared suspicious. “The driver was unable to produce valid permits or any documents authorizing the transportation of the rice.”
The consignment, along with the vehicle, has been taken into custody, they said.
“An FIR has been registered at Police Station Vilgam under relevant sections of law, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended destination of the rice,” officials added.
