
SRINAGAR: Police have seized seven vehicles allegedly involved in illegal excavation and transportation of minerals in Handwara as part of its intensified action against unlawful mining in the district.
According to officials, police teams from Langate, Chogul and Magam posts, acting under the supervision of senior officers, intercepted and seized six tractors and one JCB machine during the drive. The vehicles were allegedly being used for illegal transportation of minerals.
Proceedings under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act have been initiated, and further investigation is underway, police said.
Reiterating its resolve to curb illegal mining, police stated that such activities contribute to environmental degradation and deplete public resources.
Authorities have appealed to the public to cooperate and report any instances of illegal mining. Police assured that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
