
Srinagar, Apr 02: Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mining, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday seized five vehicles involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Shopian.
A police statement reads that during routine patrolling, a police party from Police Post Keegam intercepted and seized two tractors engaged in illegal mining activities without mandatory permissions. In this regard FIR No. 44/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and further investigation has been initiated.
In a similar action, on specific information police party from Police Station Zainapora intercepted two tractors and one dumper involved in illegal extraction of minerals without royalty documents. In this regard FIR No. 40/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Zainapora and further investigation has been initiated.
Police reiterate its firm commitment to safeguarding the district’s natural resources and ensuring strict legal action against individuals involved in illegal mining activities. The general public is urged to cooperate with the police by reporting any such unlawful practices. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential and stringent action will be taken against violators, the statement reads.
