Police Register Six FIRs Over Sale of Rotten Meat in Srinagar – Alfaaz – The Words

Srinagar: Srinagar Police, in coordination with the Civil Administration and the Department of Food Safety, has launched a major crackdown on the sale of rotten and unhygienic meat in the city.

“So far, six cases have been registered against individuals and businesses found violating food safety norms,” said a Police Spokesperson, adding the cases include FIR No. 45/2025 under sections 271 and 275 BNS at PS Lal Bazar, FIR No. 90/2025 under sections 272 and 275 BNS at PS Bemina, FIR No. 67/2025 under sections 271 and 275 BNS read with section 51 of the Food Safety Act at PS Batamaloo, FIR No. 102/2025 under sections 271 and 280 BNS at PS Safakadal, FIR No. 73/2025 under sections 271 and 275 BNS at PS Ram Munshi Bagh, and FIR No. 48/2025 under sections 61, 271 and 275 BNS at PS Zakura.

“To strengthen enforcement, a flying squad comprising officers from District Police, Civil Administration and the Food Safety Department has been constituted to carry out surprise inspections across Srinagar.”

“The action follows reports of several establishments indulging in practices that posed a serious threat to public health,” said the Spokesperson.

“During these operations, significant quantities of rotten meat have been seized, confiscated, and destroyed as per laid-down protocols,” the Spokesperson added.
