
SRINAGAR: In its ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and communication security, the Srinagar District Police has launched a comprehensive inspection drive targeting SIM card vendors across the district.
According to a police spokesperson, the initiative aims to curb the misuse of SIM cards in criminal, fraudulent, or terror-related activities and to ensure strict adherence to Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines and telecom regulations.
Police teams from all five zones covering Police Stations Khanyar, Lal Bazar, Saddar, Nishat, RM Bagh, Soura, Parimpora, Safakadal, Karan Nagar, Batamaloo, Maisuma, Kralkhud, Kothibagh, Zakoora, Ahmad Nagar, Shaheedganj, Sangam, Soura, and Police Posts Noorbagh, Bagiyas, and Khimber — carried out detailed inspections of SIM vendors operating in their respective jurisdictions.
Over 50 SIM vendors were inspected, with the focus on verifying customer identity proofs, maintaining proper records, and ensuring that SIM cards are issued solely to genuine customers with valid documentation.
Police warned that vendors found violating regulations would face legal action, including fines, licence cancellation, or prosecution under relevant laws.
The public has been urged to cooperate with the inspection teams and to ensure that SIM cards registered in their names are not misused. Citizens are also encouraged to report any suspicious activity or irregular SIM issuance to the nearest police station or the District Police Helpline.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson reaffirmed that Srinagar Police remains committed to safeguarding communication networks and maintaining public trust by preventing their misuse for unlawful or anti-national purposes.
