Police Launch Crackdown on Jamaat-e-Islami Network in North Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Police in North Kashmir’s Sopore area carried out extensive raids across the district, targeting individuals and premises associated with the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), in one of the largest security operations in recent months.

Reports said that More than 30 locations were searched in Sopore, Zaingeer, and Rafiabad with the support of other security agencies. Officials said the action followed credible intelligence inputs about attempts by JeI-linked elements to revive their activities under new names.

Police seized a large cache of incriminating material, including documents, digital devices, and printed content suspected to have links to the proscribed group. Several people were detained for questioning.

Authorities described the operation as part of an ongoing preventive strategy aimed at dismantling the ideological and logistical networks supporting separatist activities in the region.

A senior police officer said the searches were intelligence-driven and designed to prevent any effort to destabilize the peace in the area.

Sopore Police reaffirmed their commitment to continue operations against all entities linked to banned organizations to ensure peace and stability in the district. (KNS)
