SRINAGAR: Police in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have imposed a temporary restriction on the use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) services, citing concerns over public safety, cyber security and the maintenance of law and order.
The advisory, issued by Ganderbal Police, said the restriction has been enforced with immediate effect in accordance with directions of the District Magistrate, Ganderbal, under Order No. DCG/ADC-PS/2025/2959 dated December 31, 2025.
Officials said the move is a precautionary and preventive measure aimed at curbing the possible misuse of VPN services, which could hinder lawful monitoring mechanisms or pose risks to overall security in the district.
The public has been advised to strictly comply with the order and refrain from using VPN services on all digital platforms and devices for the duration of the restriction. Police warned that any violation of the directive will invite strict legal action under relevant provisions of law.
Ganderbal Police have appealed to residents to cooperate with the authorities and act responsibly in the larger interest of peace, security and public welfare in the district.
