SRINAGAR: As part of its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking and in line with its zero-tolerance policy, police in Sopore have booked three habitual drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act for their continued involvement in the narcotics trade.

“The following accused have been lodged in different jails: Abdul Hamid Lone, son of Mohammad Ramzan Lone, resident of Tujjar Sharief, is currently lodged at Kot Bhalwal Jail; Javid Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Subhan Wani, also a resident of Tujjar Sharief, is lodged at Central Jail Amphala, Jammu; and Firdous Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Sultan Dar, resident of Reban Sopore, is presently lodged at District Jail Udhampur,” police said.

Despite multiple FIRs and preventive actions in the past, the individuals continued their involvement in drug peddling, posing a serious threat to public safety and youth welfare. Following detailed surveillance and preparation of dossiers, competent authorities issued detention orders under the PIT NDPS Act.

As part of the ongoing action, Sopore Police have identified 20 more repeat offenders involved in drug peddling who are likely to face similar action under the Act in the coming days.

Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling the narcotics network and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drug-related activity.
