SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district have attached property worth around Rs 61 lakh belonging to a man accused of large-scale narcotics trafficking, officials said on Tuesday.

The property, owned by Ghulam Rasool Dar, son of late Abdul Rehman Dar and resident of Vidoe Mishipora, was seized under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Dar is involved in case FIR No. 62/2021 under Sections 8/15-29 NDPS Act registered at Police Station Qaimoh, in which 520 kilograms of poppy straw were recovered.

According to police, Dar is already detained under the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in NDPS Act (PIT-NDPS) and is currently lodged at Central Jail Kot Bhalwal in Jammu. The attached property was identified as illegally acquired from the proceeds of narcotics trafficking following a detailed investigation by Qaimoh Police.

The attachment order was executed in the presence of an executive magistrate and local residents. Police said the move is part of an ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking networks aimed at dismantling their financial infrastructure in the district.

Locals hailed the police action, commending efforts to curb the drug menace in the area. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have urged the public to cooperate and report any information related to drug peddling or associated activities.
