SRINAGAR: Police in North Kashmir’s Sopore arrested two individuals in separate cases related to drugs and illicit liquor during routine naka checking operations on Friday.
“In the first case, a police team from Police Station Bomai intercepted a suspicious individual at Bun Astan Tujjer. During the search, a Charas-like substance was recovered. The accused has been identified as Irfan Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Majeed Sheikh, a resident of Panzipora Tarzoo. He was arrested and shifted to the police station. A case under FIR No. 34/2025 has been registered under relevant sections, and investigation is ongoing to identify the source and wider network,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
In a separate operation, police intercepted another suspect at Takiya Panzalla and recovered five bottles of illicit liquor and eight tins of beer. “The accused, identified as Babar Shamus Baba, son of Shamas-ud-Din Baba of Chinkipora Sopore, was also taken into custody. A case under FIR No. 44/2025 has been filed at Police Station Panzalla, and further investigation is underway.”
Police reiterated its commitment to act against drug trafficking and illegal liquor trade, urging the public to report any suspicious activity.
