
SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday arrested nine persons for their alleged involvement in illegal mining activities at Padgampora in Awantipora area of south Kashmir, officials said.
A police team from Police Station Awantipora, led by the station house officer and functioning under the supervision of the sub divisional police officer Awantipora, conducted the operation and detained the accused from the site, police said.
Those arrested were identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Kandizal; Shahid Ahmad Hurra, son of Mohammad Mustafa Hurra of Dangerpora; Gulzar Ahmad Dar, son of Aima Dar of Kandizal; Nawaz Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Kandizal; Mohammad Abdullah Dar, son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar of Kandizal; Shakir Ahmad Dar, son of Ali Mohammad Dar of Bijbehara; Gowhar Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Bijbehara; Manzoor Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Gani Dar of Bijbehara; and Jan Mohammad Dar, son of Mohammad Ramzan Dar of Kandizal.
Police said a case has been registered under FIR No 272 of 2025 at Police Station Awantipora under the relevant sections of law, and further investigation is underway.
Officials said the latest action marks the 50th case registered by Police Station Awantipora against illegal mining during the current year, underscoring what police described as a sustained and zero tolerance approach against unlawful mining activities in the area.
