
Srinagar: Acting in coordination with the Food Safety Department, Budgam Police on Saturday seized 100 kilograms of rotten fish at Humhama Chowk, Srinagar. The consignment, packed in two parcels, had been transported from Srinagar International Airport to a local shop.
In a media statement, the Police identified the accused as Mehdi Hasan Lashkar, son of Attaullah Lashkar of Hawgul Dori, West Bengal, presently residing at Safa Kadal Chowk, Srinagar. He was arrested on the spot. An FIR (No. 263/2025) has been registered at Police Station Budgam under relevant provisions of law, including Sections 271, 272, and 275 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The District Administration has constituted Flying Squads with officials from various departments, including police, to check the transport and sale of unsafe food items. Police have also established nakas at key entry points to curb such activities.
Authorities have in the meantime appealed to the public to stay alert and report any violations to the nearest police station to safeguard food safety and public health.
