Kupwara: In a significant breakthrough against the drug menace, Kupwara Police apprehended two narcotic smugglers with a substantial quantity of contraband during a late-night operation in Lalpora.

Acting on specific inputs, Police Station Lalpora had established a naka at Rangward on Wednesday evening. Around 10:00 PM, two individuals moving suspiciously attempted to flee upon noticing the naka party. However, the alert police personnel swiftly intercepted and apprehended them on the spot, thwarting their escape bid.

During their personal search, a considerable quantity of charas-like substance was recovered. The arrested persons have been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Ab Rehman Bhat, a resident of Krusan, and Aabid Shafi Mir, son of Mohd Shafi, a resident of Dharamwari.

A case under FIR No. 46/2025 has been registered at Police Station Lalpora under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation has been initiated. Kupwara Police reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating the scourge of drugs from the district and appealed to the general public to cooperate in this collective fight against narcotics.
