New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to use his 79th Independence Day address from the Red Fort to outline the Centre’s roadmap for restoring full statehood to Jammu & Kashmir.
The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has already submitted formal recommendations on the matter to the Centre, Dainik Bhasker reported sources as saying. “If PM Modi makes an official announcement, the process to restore statehood could gain momentum, with legislative and procedural steps expected to follow.”
“Introducing a bill in the Assembly will be a key prerequisite before the transition from Union Territory to full statehood can be completed,” said officials as per the report.
The move, once confirmed, would mark a significant political milestone since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 and the bifurcation of the erstwhile state into two Union Territories, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh.
