
Kupwara: A plantation drive was successfully organised at Government Girls Upper Primary School (UPS) Zagsundri in the Qaziabad area of Kupwara district as part of the ongoing “Plantation Drive Across J&K” initiative, under the directions of Education Minister Sakeena Itoo.
The programme aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage students to contribute towards a greener and more sustainable future. Students, teaching staff, and members of the local community participated enthusiastically, planting a number of saplings within the school premises.
Head of the Institution, Tahira Akhter, who led the drive, highlighted the importance of tree plantation in addressing climate change and maintaining ecological balance. She stated that such initiatives play a crucial role in enhancing green cover while fostering a sense of environmental responsibility among students.
Staff members, including Ajaz Ahmad Rather, Khaja Altaf Hussain, and Nighat Akhter, actively coordinated and supervised the plantation activities. Students participated with keen interest, gaining practical knowledge about plantation and understanding the long-term benefits of nurturing trees.
The drive was conducted in accordance with the directives of the Education Department, with emphasis on proper planning and active participation, making the programme both effective and educational. (via. Adnan Sheikh)
