Srinagar, Feb 21: Peoples Democratic Party spokesperson Zuhaib Yousf Mir called for the closure of alcohol shops and rationalisation of working hours for government employees during Ramadhan in “Muslim-majority” Jammu and Kashmir, citing similar moves taken in Kashi and Mathura during Navratri.

“Can we dare do that in J&K with an elected government in place?” Zubair questioned

In a post on X, Zuhaib Yousf Mir wrote, “While respecting the religious sensitiveties during Navratri, the non-veg food stalls are closed in many cities, like Kashi and Mathura, till the festival is over. Fair enough, can we demand something equally basic as closing of Alcohol Shops in Muslim majority J&K, atleast during this holy month.”

“Additionally can we also call for rationalisation of working hours for govt employees during Ramadhan, as done by states such Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Can we dare do that in J&K with an elected government in place?” Zubair added.
