Srinagar, Mar 5: PDP leader Zuhaib Yousuf Mir has urged National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah “to go beyond seeking clarification” from the government of India and also seek a clear and unequivocal position from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, regarding recent global developments concerning Iran and the reported assassination of Shaheed Imam Ali Khamenei.
In a statement, Mir stated that while Dr Farooq recently sought clarification from New Delhi on the evolving situation, “it is equally important that the Chief Minister of the country’s only Muslim-majority region articulates a clear and principled stance on the matter.” According to Mir, the statements made so far by the Chief Minister have been limited to general remarks and platitudes, without any definitive or affirmative position. He emphasised that the current global situation is deeply volatile and that the international order appears to be facing significant disruption. Mir attributed much of this instability to what he described as the dictatorial mindset shaping the policies of leaders like Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, whose actions, he said, have contributed to rising tensions and uncertainty across regions.
Mir called on political leaders in J&K to demonstrate moral clarity and responsibility in times of global crisis, stressing that silence or ambiguous statements only deepen public concern and confusion. “People expect their leaders to speak with conviction on issues that resonate deeply with them,” Mir said, adding that transparent and firm positions are essential to maintain public trust. The PDP leader reiterated that leadership requires courage and clarity, especially when international developments evoke strong emotions and concerns among the people.
