SRINAGAR: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Waheed-ur-Rehman Para has criticised the Jammu and Kashmir government, alleging that its response to the recent developments involving Iran was inadequate and lacked a clear condemnation.

In a post on X, Para referred to a statement by National Conference president Farooq Abdullah urging the Government of India to clarify its position on the reported US-Israel attack on Iran, but pointed out that the appeal came several days after the strikes.

Para also questioned the response of the Jammu and Kashmir administration led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, saying the government had not issued a strong condemnation of the incident. He said the official statement referred to the situation only as a “recent development” rather than directly criticising Israel’s actions.

He further asked why the matter had not been formally discussed by the cabinet and why a clear resolution had not been passed by the government.

Para also questioned why discussions on the issue were held at the Nawa-i-Subh party office instead of through an official government forum. He added that as the leader of India’s only Muslim-majority region, the Chief Minister had an opportunity to demonstrate moral clarity and solidarity with those affected by the conflict.

His remarks come amid strong reactions in Kashmir following the escalation in the Middle East, with protests and shutdowns reported in several parts of the Valley after reports about the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader during the conflict.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had earlier expressed concern over the situation in Iran and appealed for calm and restraint in Jammu and Kashmir.
