Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has arrested a former Patwari, who had been absconding for over three months in a high-profile corruption case.

Ashiq Ali, son of Ghulam Rasool Khan and a resident of Panner Jagir, currently staying in Hawal, Srinagar, was wanted in connection with FIR No. 14/2025, registered under Sections 167, 420, 120-B of the RPC, along with Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to officials, the case involves allegations of cheating, corrupt practices, and manipulation of revenue records, including false mutations and wrongful entries. The FIR was filed on July 9, 2025, naming six accused persons, including a Tehsildar. Five of them are already in custody.

Despite multiple search operations, the accused successfully evaded arrest until EOW teams, acting on specific intelligence inputs, apprehended him today.

Officials further said that bail application of the accused had previously been rejected by the competent court.

Crime Branch Kashmir reiterated its resolve to intensify efforts against corruption and economic offences in the Union Territory, emphasizing that no individual evading the law will be spared.
