SRINAGAR: Government schools in Jammu and Kashmir have recorded improved results in the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations, with pass percentages rising sharply compared to last year, according to official figures released on Wednesday.

In the Class 10 examination, 80,650 students cleared the test out of 94,845 who appeared, registering an overall pass percentage of 85.03 per cent. This marks an increase from last year’s pass rate of 79.94 per cent.

Similarly, the Class 12 examination saw 59,435 students qualify out of 70,735 candidates, resulting in a pass percentage of 84.02 per cent, up from 75.95 per cent recorded in the previous year.

Government Higher Secondary Schools accounted for a large share of top performers. In the Kashmir division, 377 of the 425 students who shared positions in the top ten across various streams were from government schools. In the Jammu division (winter zone), 48 of the 58 students in the top ten positions were from government institutions.

Overall performance in government schools at the Class 12 level also showed gains. Of the 64,486 students who appeared through Government Higher Secondary Schools, 53,620 passed, reflecting a pass percentage of 83.15 per cent. Among them, 24,909 students in the Kashmir division and 3,918 students in the Jammu division (winter zone) secured distinctions.

Education Minister Sakeena Itoo congratulated students, teachers and parents on the results, describing the outcome as evidence of sustained efforts to improve the education sector. She said investments in infrastructure, teacher training, curriculum strengthening and student-focused initiatives were contributing to better academic outcomes.

“The performance of students from government schools shows that quality education can be effectively delivered through public institutions,” the minister said, adding that the government would continue to work towards ensuring equitable access to education and improving learning conditions across the region.

She also acknowledged the role of teachers and school heads, saying their efforts had been central to the improved results, and urged students to continue striving for academic excellence.
