Srinagar, Jul 29: The Department of Sheep Husbandry, Kashmir, in collaboration with the All J&K Sheep and Wool Workers Association, today held a day-long seminar at Lal Mandi, Srinagar, highlighting the critical role played by Para-Veterinary professionals in the sector.
The seminar was presided over by the Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Cooperatives & Elections, Javid Ahmad Dar. MLA Sonawari, Hilal Akbar Lone, and Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, Shailendra Kumar, attended the event as Guests of Honour.
In his address, the Minister acknowledged the tireless efforts of Para-Veterinary professionals, particularly their work in remote and high-altitude areas during harsh winters. He assured the gathering that the government would seriously examine and address the genuine demands raised by the workforce. “Livestock is a key pillar of the rural economy, and the contribution of Para-Veterinary staff in safeguarding this asset is invaluable,” he said.
The President of the All J&K Sheep and Wool Workers Association, speaking earlier, highlighted the dedication of the workforce and brought attention to various issues faced by the employees. Chief among these was the demand for additional remuneration for services rendered under challenging field conditions.
MLA Sonawari, Hilal Akbar Lone, praised the commitment of the Para-Veterinary professionals and emphasised their importance in ensuring efficient and timely service delivery at the grassroots level.
On the sidelines of the event, the Minister flagged off eight new pickup vehicles that will be deployed across various districts of the Kashmir division. These vehicles are aimed at strengthening field operations and improving service delivery to farmers.
The seminar was attended by Director Sheep Husbandry, Kashmir, Dr. Rafiq Ahmad Shah; Director Agriculture, Kashmir, Sartaj Ahmad Shah; Joint Director (Farms), Dr. Ajay Sudan; senior officers of the department, and a large number of Para-Veterinary staff and officials.
