SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday strongly condemned the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people, mostly tourists, dead, urging all nations to adopt a clear and collective stance against terrorism.
Addressing the 25th Heads of State Council meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Modi said double standards on terrorism must end, stressing that it threatens humanity as a whole.
“Terrorism in every form must be opposed. This is our responsibility towards humanity,” the Prime Minister said, adding that the attack was “an open challenge to every country and every person who believes in humanity.”
He noted that India has endured decades of terror violence with deep social and human costs. Modi questioned whether it was acceptable for some countries to openly support terrorism, emphasising that the fight must be united and without ambiguity.
The joint declaration issued after the summit condemned the Pahalgam attack, along with two separate incidents in Pakistan, and called for accountability and collective global efforts to combat terrorism.
The Prime Minister also said connectivity must go beyond trade, describing it as a tool to build trust and foster development. He underlined that confronting terrorism was not merely a matter of security, but a duty to protect human values.
